There could have been a resolution of a "real world with psychotic breaks" scenario with interior monologuing filling in the gaps, and some mundane challenge to overcome, but it wouldn't have been Eva as we know it.
	232		UrsusArctos: Little Shin-Chan gets a typical Japanese kids' room - unfamiliar to the audience, but it looks like many of the objects within the room are things we've seen in Shinji's room at Misato's place. The bag and the cello in the next cut are certainly quite familiar.

Oof, that can nullify even the First Girl Wins rule, especially now that we've genre-shifted from a mecha show into a teen romcom. Asuka is definitely being painted as the designated loser.

As an aside, I hope the bobblehead doll is indicative of Pen-Pen's celebrity status and not his complete nonexistence in this universe. dzzthink: I think these characters represent his school subjects. Yes, hope pen-pen is a renowned penguin celebrity in this existence.

	242A	YUI:“Oh, that Shinji. Asuka's being so nice, coming to get him. He's just hopeless.” IKARI:“Yes, Dear.” YUI:“You too! Stop burying your nose in that newspaper and get ready to go.” IKARI:“Yes, Dear.” YUI:“Honestly, a grown man and you're no different than Shinji.” IKARI:“Are you all ready to go?” YUI:“Yes, any time! I'm the one who gets scolded by Professor Fuyutsuki when we're late to meetings, you know.” IKARI:“You're just that popular.” YUI:“Don't be silly! Please hurry up and get dressed!” IKARI:“Yes, Dear.”	UrsusArctos: Sounds like Fuyutsuki, not Gendo, is the one calling the shots here. Gendo's snark about Yui being popular does seem seriously out of character, but the blunt "Yes, Dear" responses fit perfectly. This really does seem like what marital life would have been like between Gendo and Yui, had they had anything like a normal married existence. Also note that Gendo seems to be wearing a t-shirt or roundneck sweater, and his hands are fine.
	242B	TEXT:“South Pole Showa Base Opening Its Doors to Visitors First African-American Female President” IKARI:“I know, Yui.”	UrsusArctos: Those are some interesting newspaper headlines. "First African-American Female President", eh? That might well happen in 2024... midoriyoh: The date of Gendo's newspaper is "September 2016". Perhaps that's how much time has passed in Instrumentality already.

The homage makes perfect sense, since Megumi Hayashibara voices Ranma's female form. Dr. Nick: RIAO is the true creepy, uncanny Rei that Anno wanted. She's like a Rei skinwalker.

	254B		UrsusArctos: The sparrows pecking at the fallen toast is a funny little touch. The facefaulting and bonkers animation is hilarious and makes it seem like an entirely different show!

	259	TEXT:“What are you, stupid?” TOJI (OFF):“What?! So, did you see them? That girl's panties?”	UrsusArctos: Interestingly, this is one of the only times in the entire Evangelion franchise that we see a character's name (Asuka in this case) written in Kanji, as opposed to Katakana. Was this an oversight? Was this a tip o' the hat to Shinji Wada's Cho-Shoujo Asuka? Was this meant to mark the alternative universe as entirely different from the one we knew? It's pretty mysterious.

Honestly, I'm surprised she didn't pull up Toji for this sort of thing in the series proper, given that we see him join Kensuke's little creep photo racket in Episode 09.

Ironically, the last time we saw Hikari making a comment of that sort she was with a nameless classmate and it was a thoroughly uninterested Rei making a Gendo pose while seated in Asuka's position.

	281	REI:“You! You're the panty-peeker from this morning!”	UrsusArctos: Quite a change from smiling and saying "I'm sorry about that! I was seriously in a hurry!" Asuka gets her own jab at Rei in the next cut, so some things haven't quite changed...

	283	REI:“Who are you?! Leaping to his defense like that?! What are you, an item?!”	UrsusArctos: The old ADV dub turned the "What are you, an item?!" into the memorably and wildly over-the-top "Are you riding his baloney pony?"

	287	MISATO:“Please continue.” SHINJI (OFF):“I get it, this is also a possible world.”	UrsusArctos: I'm curious to know what all the Japanese text says. gelflinghand: The Japanese text is the shooting script (or whatever you call the animation equivalent) for the current scene - shots 281 to 287. The top row describes what the shot should show, from right to left (but don't put too much confidence in the accuracy of my translation): "Rei"; "Asuka breaks in"; "Rei is annoyed"; "Asuka"; "Hikari stands up warningly"; "Misato-sensei"; "Show full classroom, everyone laughing. Pan slowly." The pan over the script replaces the planned shot of the classroom. The handwritten note at the bottom left reads "RED don't start"; maybe this is an instruction to the animators to not start drawing the classroom, though it's placed next to Shinji's dialogue. The bottom row is the dialogue to accompany each shot, from Rei: "You! You're the panty-peeker..." to Shinji: "I get it, this is also a possible world." The handwritten text over 281-286 says "no mouth movements". Misato: "I want to know too. Please continue." is a handwritten addition, followed by Everyone:"(laughter, followed by ad libs)".
