084

MAN (OFF):“Radar has detected an unidentified object. Projected landing point is in the former Atami region.”

TEXT:“Projected Course Prepared by: Central Alert Control Command Center”

COMMANDER:“It's likely the eighth one.”

085

TEXT:“Fuchu General Supreme Command Center”

OFFICER 1:“I agree, it must be an Angel.”

OFFICER 2:“What are we going to do?”

TEXT:“Integrated Alert Control Room”

COMMANDER:“Go to alert status for now. That's the procedure, after all.”

OFFICER 2:“This one's destination is going to be New Tokyo-3 anyway.”

OFFICER 1:“I agree.”

Mr. Tines: The conventional forces are surprisingly relaxed, presumably because they can hand this one off upstairs.

086

TEXT:“Projected Course”

OFFICER 1 (OFF):“Well, there's nothing we need to do.”

Pluto: This looks like a 3D map of the Gotemba/Fujioka area, the real location of the fictional Tokyo 3.

087

Dr. Nick: So, what presumably happened off-screen is that upon sensing the blackout, Matarael quick-morphed from an Adam-like (embryonic) humanoid into a stealthy spider in order to take advantage of the situation. This hints towards the Angels having different personalities, with others being more strategic and calculating whereas others simply try to brute-force their way down to Terminal Dogma.

088

TEXT:“22nd Alert Group Old Omaezaki S.S.”

MAN (OFF):“The Angel has landed.”

WOMAN (OFF):“It's still advancing.”

089

OFFICER 1:“What about New Tokyo-3?”

WOMAN (OFF):“Still no response.”

OFFICER 2:“What in the hell are those Nerv guys doing?”

090

RITSUKO:“I thought gangway ladders were decorative holdovers from the past. Who'd have thought I'd be using one?”

091

IBUKI:“To prepare is to prevent.”

092

ASUKA:“This one doesn't work either!”

093

REI:“None of the facilities work. This is odd.”

ASUKA:“Does that mean that something happened down below?”

REI:“It would be natural to assume that.”

SHINJI:“In any case, let's try to make contact with Nerv Headquarters.”

094

MISATO:“No good, the emergency phones aren't getting through either.”

095

AOBA:“No good, Line 77 won't connect either.”

096

REI:“No, no response.”

097

ASUKA:“Not here either. The emergency landline is down too.”

SHINJI:“What do we do now?”

098

099

100

SHINJI:“What're you doing?”

ASUKA:“What are you, stupid?”

Mr. Tines: Strongly implying that Shinji the rookie hasn't got his copy with him, though both the other (serious/trained) pilots do.

UrsusArctos: Interesting that Shinji should've neglected to bring his copy with him, because Episode 19 implies that Shinji's the one who paid attention to all the evacuation drills, and as far back as Episode 01 he's so engrossed in the Nerv pamphlet that he doesn't spot the giant hand.

101

ASUKA:“It's the emergency manual!”

REI:“Anyway, let's go to headquarters.”

ASUKA:“Yeah, but first let's decide on a group leader before we take action.”

Pluto: In case of an emergency, read the manual!

102

103

ASUKA:“And naturally, I am the leader. No objections, I assume?”

Dr. Nick: Asuka might seem overtly entitled here, being the newcomer of the pilot trio, but as elaborated in the After the End audio drama, her genre logic is faultless: "Of course, the leader has to be the one wearing red, the color of justice."

104

ASUKA:“Now, let's go.”

REI:“We can get below through Route 07 over here.”

105

SHINJI (OFF):“But the doors won't work, will they?”

106

SHINJI (OFF):“Manual door...”

107

ASUKA:“Okay, Shinji, you're up.”

108

SHINJI:“Sheesh! You only rely on people at times like this!”

109

110

OFFICER 2:“Damn those Joint Staff bastards! They only rely on us at times like this.”

COMMANDER:“What does the government say?”

OFFICER 2:“Those bastards in Tokyo-2? They're apparently getting ready to run.”

UrsusArctos: I wonder if this is any indication of who cut the power. But Tokyo-2 had sent the JSSDF in EoE, and if Nerv had lost power the JSSDF would have had much less trouble dealing with Eva-02...oh, I give up.

111

TEXT:“Beware of Forest Fires”

UrsusArctos: "Beware of forest fires". Hmm...Smokey the Bear wouldn't be too happy with this great big spider stomping about his forest, would he?

112

WOMAN (OFF):“The Angel is still active and advancing.”

113

COMMANDER:“In any case, get in contact with the people at Nerv.”

OFFICER 1:“But how?”

114

OFFICER 2:“By actually going there.”

115

116

MAN (OFF):“This is the 3rd District ASDF! An unidentified object is moving toward this area.”

117

HYUGA:“Big trouble!”

MAN (OFF):“All residents must evacuate to their designated shelters.”

118

HYUGA:“I've got to report this to Headquarters right away! But how?”

Dr. Nick: Even if there's no third rail to be worried about, Makoto is really tempting fate by walking on the tracks like that.

119A

WOMAN (OFF):“Remember Takahashi remains calm even in situations like this! Please support candidate Takahashi!”

Dr. Nick: Local politician literally saves the entire human race.

119B

HYUGA:“Lucky!”

120-133

134

MISATO (OFF):“But you know, it sure is hot.”

135

KAJI:“Yeah, the air conditioners are out too. Katsuragi, if you're so hot, why don't you take off your shirt?”

136

KAJI:“There's no reason for shyness between you and me.”

137

MISATO:“Don't get any funny ideas just because we're in this situation.”

138

KAJI:“Okay, okay!”

139

RITSUKO:“This is bad. Now the air is getting stagnant. To think this facility represents the most advanced technology on Earth...”

IBUKI:“But look at the Commander and Vice Commander. Even this heat isn't getting to them at all.”

140

141

TEXT:“For Fire Prevention”

UrsusArctos: I'll have to ask for a script translation to find out whose feet those are (and who has a liking for awful red socks) but I think that's Fuyutsuki, not Gendo.

dzzthink: Perhaps so as he comments on it being lukewarm in the next cut. This method actually works quite well as the feet have good circulation. In this instance, it is one of the many great visual gags in the episode.

142

FUYUTSUKI:“It's lukewarm.”

IKARI:“Yeah.”

Mr. Tines: Gendo is unflappable, even in these circumstances, where he doesn't know whose head needs to be served up on a platter.
