TEXT:“Submitted Resolving Rejected”

301

AOBA:“All right!”

ANNOUNCEMENT:“Independent self-destruct has been canceled by the artificial intelligence.”

UrsusArctos: Aoba's delighted, old Fuyutsuki slumps in relief. It's interesting that in this episode we see Fuyutsuki with his hand on Aoba's chair, and he was also standing behind Aoba in Cut 040, suggesting a Fuyutsuki-Aoba association at least in this episode. It's especially interesting since Fuyutsuki's almost always near Gendo and rarely near the bridge bunnies, and while Hyuga is paired with Misato and Maya with Ritsuko, we practically never see Aoba associated with any of the senior Nerv staff.

302

ANNOUNCEMENT:“Furthermore, Special Command 582 has also been canceled.”

303

ANNOUNCEMENT:“Magi system returning to normal mode.”

304

305

306

307

ANNOUNCEMENT:“Alert R canceled. Alert R canceled. All hands”

308

SHINJI:“What the heck's going on?”

ANNOUNCEMENT:“return to first stage alert.”

Dr. Nick: Misato spent episode 11 uselessly trapped in an elevator. Now it was the kids' turn.

309

310

ASUKA:“Jeez, I can't go anywhere naked!”

311

ASUKA:“Somebody hurry up and help me!”

Dr. Nick: Interestingly, considering cut 307, the entry plugs seem to have been ejected in the lake at the bottom of Geofront, so perhaps the pond defense destroyer Nerv keeps there got to be useful for once as a rescue boat.

312

ANNOUNCEMENT:“Sigma Unit released. T minus zero three to Magi system reactivation.”

313

RITSUKO:“Maybe I'm getting old. Staying up for these all-nighters is rough.”

UrsusArctos: Like when looking in the mirror in Cut 012, Ritsuko worries about growing old, vocally this time. Even if she's only 30, she already gives the impression of being paranoid about ageing. If her age-related worries have to do with her appearance rather than her ability to stay up, she needn't fear, because her counterpart in Evangelion 3.0 barely looks any older in her mid-40s!

314

MISATO:“You kept your promise again. Good job.”

315

RITSUKO:“Thank you. This is the first time I've ever really appreciated your coffee.”

UrsusArctos: That's an honest, if rather backhanded admission to an old friend.

316

RITSUKO:“The night before she died, my mother told me that the Magi are three aspects of herself.”

317

RITSUKO:“Herself as a scientist. Herself as a mother. Herself as a woman. The Magi is those three aspects struggling for dominance. She intentionally left in the dilemmas of human experience.”

dzzthink: Just as a background, the Magi were Biblical figures that presented gifts to the newly born Jesus - Caspar (frankincense), Melchior (gold), and Balthasar (myrrh). “Where is the child who has been born king of the Jews? For we observed his star at its rising, and have come to pay him homage” (Matthew 2:2)

318

RITSUKO (OFF):“Actually, each of the three programs are slightly different.”

319

RITSUKO:“I don't think I'll ever be a mother, so I don't understand her as a mother. But I respected her as a scientist. However, as a woman, I even hated her.”

MISATO:“You're rather talkative today.”

RITSUKO:“It's been known to happen.”

UrsusArctos: This gives so much context for Naoko's onscreen appearance in Episode 21 and her interactions with Ritsuko (and Gendo). And props to Yuriko Yamaguchi for her awesome line delivery, she absolutely nails Ritsuko's attitude towards her mother in this scene.

320

321

322

RITSUKO:“Casper contains the pattern of her as a woman. She stayed a woman to the last. How totally like my mother.”

UrsusArctos: Watching Episode 25' where Casper, once again, stays a woman to the last, makes it all the more tragic.

dzzthink: Indeed, it seems like Casper connected with Ritsuko on a spiritual level in this episode yet led to Ritsuko's demise later on.
