250

UrsusArctos: This sequence (cuts 250-257) appears to be the only traditional super-robot style launch in all of Eva, with the pilots sitting in heroically determined poses as they move out to challenge their enemy.

251

252

253

Pluto: First combat sortie of Blue Unit 00!

254

255

256

257

258

Frogatr: Taking a good look at our "daddy longlegs" Angel, The closest species i could find resembling Matarael is of the Leiobunum genus of harvestmen.

259

260

HYUGA:“The target appears to have halted directly above us!”

261

RITSUKO:“Get ready! Hurry up!”

262

263

IBUKI:“The emergency batteries have been loaded!”

264

RITSUKO:“All right, we can do this!”

265

RITSUKO:“Launch!”

266

ASUKA (OFF):“Geez!”

UrsusArctos: The rather embarrassing-looking crawling makes for a neat contrast from all those heroic poses at launch! The emergency batteries are the large black rectangles fitted on the back of their fins. There's a lot that these batteries could have been put to use for tactically, but we never see them again after this episode. As ASW_Canuck notes on the forum, the batteries attach to the same section of the fins that attaches to the Eva launch rails, meaning you can't use one without sacrificing use of the other. And really, shouldn't the batteries plug in to the power cable attachment on the back?

267

ASUKA:“This is SO uncool!”

268

REI:“We're approaching the vertical shaft.”

269

UrsusArctos: Asuka uses Eva-02 to kick down the access door in the same way she kicked Shinji in the face in 224, and before that she'd kicked the door to the outside (and the Angel) open. She seems to have a distinct preference for kicking things.

270

271

272

273

ASUKA:“This is still uncool.”

274

275

276

Mr. Tines: The tears of an angel.

277

278

REI:“Watch out! Dodge!”

279

280

281

282

283

ASUKA (OFF):“No!”

284

285

286

UrsusArctos: Shinji's look of horror (HELP!!! There are two Evas falling right on top of me!!!) is pretty comical, and it would've been funnier we'd gotten a cut of Asuka yelling and Rei stoically bearing having Asuka come down on top of her before seeing this.

287

288

289

UrsusArctos: While it is usually Asuka and Shinji who end up in undignified heaps (like Cut 227 and in Episode 09), Eva-02 falling on top of Eva-00 has the result of adding Rei to this particular pile-up.

290

291

292

293

294

295

UrsusArctos: After seeing Angels with distinctly inhuman eyes use standard giant monster optical blasts (albeit with nonstandard explosion shapes), seeing an Angel with a strangely human eye crying tears of acid up-close is creepy.

Frogatr: This is why Matarael is known as "The Angel of Rain"

Zusuchan: Looks like intense crying rather than rain. (Yet another sad, confused Angel.)
