SHINJI (OFF):“This is an Angel?”

RITSUKO (OFF):“Yes, it's something like a chrysalis prior to reaching the adult stage.”

Frogatr: So Sandalphon and Adam have embryonic stages, i wonder what the other angels embryonic forms looked like, or if some of them appear fully formed right from birth.

UrsusArctos: You raise an interesting question. Although it seems implied that they all had humanoid embryonic stages, we have no further evidence about where the Angels came from or what their lifecycle is like, especially when dealing with weirdo Angels like Ireul and Leliel.

105

RITSUKO:“This operation's prime objective is to capture this Angel.”

106

RITSUKO (OFF):“We must capture it alive, as close to its original state as possible.”

ASUKA (OFF):“And if we can't?”

RITSUKO (OFF):“Then you must destroy it immediately. Do you understand?”

SHINJI & ASUKA & REI (OFF):“Yes, Ma'am!”

107

RITSUKO:“The designated pilot for the actual operation is...”

108

ASUKA:“Hey, let me! I'll dive!”

109

SHINJI (MONO):“But I'll bet it's going to be me again.”

RITSUKO (OFF):“Asuka.”

110

RITSUKO:“Carry out the mission using Unit 02.”

111

ASUKA:“Sure! This'll be a piece of cake.”

REI:“And me?”

112

IBUKI:“The prototype Unit 00 isn't compatible with the special equipment we'll be using.”

RITSUKO:“Rei and Unit 00 will remain at headquarters on standby.”

113

REI:“Yes, Ma'am.”

114

ASUKA:“Oh, too bad for you. You don't get to go to the hot springs.”

115

116

RITSUKO:“Since an A-17 has been ordered, we'll scramble immediately. Get ready.”

SHINI & ASUKA:“Yes, Ma'am!”

Dr. Nick: The kids are displaying surprisingly little intellectual curiosity in this scene when faced with the creepily humanoid embryo. If the Angels are all supposed to be of the same species, I'd be interested to hear why the adult inviduals are morphologically so staggeringly different. Are they just naturally-occuring creatures that are being modified by some villain faction? Are they modified people? If the base forms are so human-like, why don't the Angel attacks look more like this?

117

118

ASUKA:“You say this is the heat resistant plug suit, but it's not any different.”

119

RITSUKO:“Try pressing the switch on the right.”

120

121

ASUKA:“Oh, no!”

122

123

ASUKA:“What is this?!”

Dr. Nick: Truly, we are entering the age of Fatso now. If by being red and fat Asuka can channel the powers of Mazinger Z's Boss, she's going to gain a comic relief plot armor stronger than any A.T. Field.

dzzthink: It reminds me of Violet Beauregarde in the Charlie and the chocolate factory.

124

RITSUKO:“Unit 02 is also ready.”

125

ASUKA (OFF):“No!”

126

ASUKA:“What is that?!”

127

RITSUKO:“The suit is designed to protect you from heat, pressure, and radiation. This is Type-D equipment, for combat under extreme environmental duress.”

128

ASUKA:“Is that my”

129

ASUKA (OFF):“Unit 02?”

130

ASUKA:“No way! Count me out! I don't want to appear in public in this!”

131

ASUKA:“This sort of thing is up Shinji's alley!”

KAJI (OFF):“That's too bad.”

dzzthink: It's funny in the way that she has a prespecified role for Shinji in her head as the village idiot while thinking of herself as the true main character.

132

KAJI:“I was anticipating seeing Asuka's gallant figure!”

133

ASUKA:“No! But I don't have the courage to go in front of Mr. Kaji looking so uncool!”

134

IBUKI (OFF):“This is a problem.”

RITSUKO (OFF):“Yes...”

SHINJI:“Excuse me, but I...”

Zusuchan: Seems like Asuka's schoolgirlish actions do not impress Shinji. (Also darkly horrifying to note that a person who would say no to an operation because she looks "uncool" is one of humanity's greatest defenders.)

135

REI:“I'll go in Unit 02.”

Dr. Nick: Notice the implication that Rei might be able to pilot Unit-02 in the first place.

136

137

138

ASUKA:“Sorry, but I don't want you touching my Unit 02!”

139

ASUKA:“I'd rather do it than let the First take my place.”

140

141

ASUKA:“I know it's uncool, but put up with it, okay?”

dzzthink: Asuka is probably the only person who talks to her Eva.
