The Adams[1] are four giants of light that were present at Second Impact in the Rebuild continuity.

The entities have not yet been directly mentioned within the actual films, and essentially nothing concrete is known about them. In Evangelion 3.0, Kaworu Nagisa states that he himself is the 1st and 13th Angel, invalidating the previous idea that the four Adams put together served as Rebuild's 1st Angel (the role taken by Adam in the original series). How this connects the Adams to Kaworu Nagisa and the Angels in the Rebuild movies is, so far, unknown.

However, it is known that Eva-13(dual-piloted by Kaworu and Shinji) is an "Adams survivor" - distinguished from other Evangelions by its complete inability to project an A.T. Field. Eva-13 bears a striking resemblance to Eva-01 and the luminous being that Evangelion Unit-01 pseudo-evolves into at the end of Eva 2.0 to "continue Second Impact" resembles the Adams in their "giants of light" form. This raises the possibility that Eva-01 is either one of the Adams or is related to them, although Eva-01 has known differences with Eva-13 (notably, the ability to generate an A.T. Field of its own.)

Mark.09 is described as an "Adam's vessel" and "Wunder's former master" with its entire body being a core. This might be an indication than an "Adam" or "Adams" can be shifted from one "vessel" to another, but this interpretation is subject to the exact meaning of "Adam's vessel". Thus far, more questions than answers exist for the Adams and their purpose.

The Adams as seen in their "giant of light" form are all slightly different in appearance, but all possess halos and wings. Fifteen years after Second Impact, the four crosses they generated are still present in the center of the crater at the South Pole. Whether anything else happened in the following 14 years is not seen.

Third Eye

One of the Adams has a third eye. This motif reappears with two other beings: Eva-01 as the Radiant Giant at Near Third Impact, and Eva-08. While some kind of link between the three seems implied, there is no way at present to know what that might entail. A three-eyed giant is present in the IPEA's logo, as well.

Notes & References

  1. The term "Adams" has only so far appeared in the preview for Eva 2.0 at the end of the first movie. The Evangelion 2.0 script refers to them only as giants of light (光の巨人, hikari no kyojin).

This article bears the unpleasant designation of "Stub." This is a Bad Thing. Provide a great service to NGE fan-geeks everywhere by making it awesomer!
