Vice Commander Kozo Fuyutsuki is second-in-command of NERV HQ and Gendo Ikari's right hand man.

Past

Fuyutsuki was a professor of Metaphysical Biology at Kyoto University before Second Impact. While there, he met young scientist Yui Ikari and aided her in her research in his field. He then met Gendo Rokobungi, bailing him out of jail, and eventually taking him on as a research student, though he disliked him somewhat. Fuyutuski was disconcerted when Yui told him that she was dating Gendo.

After surviving Second Impact, Fuyutsuki was selected (by Gendo) to be part of the United Nation's official investigatory expedition to the antarctic. Determined to discover the truth about Second Impact, Fuyutsuki relentlessly dug for information on Gendo, Second Impact, the Katsuragi Expedition to Antarctica, and the mysterious organization "SEELE" that Gendo and Yui were working for. He then confronted Gendo with his findings. Gendo then showed Fuyutsuki the Geofront and then-under construction Tokyo-3, and the first prototype Evangelion unit, and invited Fuyutusuki to "join us in creating a new genesis for Mankind". Fuyutsuki joined GEHIRN (NERV's predecessor organization), though it would appear that he had little choice in the matter, as in flashbacks in The End of Evangelion he says that SEELE presented him with the choice of either joining them or "disappearing" him for what he knew.

Tokyo 3

As deputy commander of NERV under Gendo, Fuytusuki frequently takes command of situations at the base whenever Gendo is away on business. Gendo also tends to unload busy-work such as town council meeting and the like onto Fuytusuki.
