Events Synopsis

As Shinji Ikari arrives in Tokyo-3, the Angel Sachiel advances on the city. Shinji is rescued in the nick of time by Misato Katsuragi and taken to Nerv's underground base, where he is asked by his long absent father, Gendo, to pilot Evangelion Unit-01 into battle against the Angel. After some doubt, Shinji eventually agrees and is lauched into battle in Unit-01 just as Sachiel enters the city.
