tr:Gainax
Gainax Company, Limited (pron. "guy-nax") is the anime studio which produced Neon Genesis Evangelion. It was founded in 1981 (when it was originally known as "Daicon Film") by four university students: Hideaki Anno, Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, Takami Akai, and Shinji Higuchi.
Originally a group of fans themselves, Gainax has always had been very accepting of the dōjinshi and fan-made models that their work inspires within the otaku culture.
There is also something of a meme known as "Gainaxing",[1] which is a very specific kind of fan service made by famous by Gainax with the frequency with which it has appeared in their works.
In May 2006, Hideaki Anno, along with others who had worked on the original Neon Genesis Evangelion, retired from the company to form studio Khara, of which Anno is the president.
