Gainax Company, Limited (pron. "guy-nax") is the anime studio which produced Neon Genesis Evangelion. It was founded in 1981 (when it was originally known as "Daicon Film") by four university students: Hideaki Anno, Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, Takami Akai, and Shinji Higuchi. Anno has since retired from the company[Source needed] to form his own studio, Khara.
