The "original text" and information from the booklet should be worked together into a seamless paragraph, with the booklet cited as a source. --Reichu 10:31, 30 December 2007 (PST)

"(Platinum) does not have quite as good video or sound quality when compared directly to Renewal" does anyone have any more details about this? --Nomis1242 00:30, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

Unsorted

Other than the "Director's Cuts" of episodes 21 onwards, were there any new shots or scenes added to any other episodes on the Renewal set? I was unaware that the opening scene of Episode 12 was altered on Renewal; what was altered in episodes 1-20?--V 11:39, 3 August 2007 (EDT)

The extended opening we're refering to here is not an extended version of the opening scene to ep. 12; it's an extended version of the series' opening credits, set to the full length version of Cruel Angel's Thesis. One of the added images is the still of Adam being excavated in Antarctica. This was a renewal extra that ADV didn't license.

There was no new footage added to 1-20, but there was a lot of new background sound added to take advantage of the 5.1 mix, such as P.A. announcements, ect.--thewayneiac Aug. 08, 2007 18:50 EDT.
Wait you said "(I see the cause of the confusion. The extended OP is not from D&R)"...so is the extended opening to episode 12 from Renewal or Death and Rebirth or what? I'm confused. --V 08:56, 4 August 2007 (EDT)

We are talking about two completely different things here:

The Death and Rebirth version of the Ep. 12 Second Impact scene was enhanced by having red soul dots floating around the Wings of Light. These dots are absent in the original, including in Renewal/Platinum.
The shot of Adam being excavated at Antarctica which shows that she originally had no shoulder pylons comes from an extended version of the series opening that was included on the Renewal Test Type disk. This is the Extended Opening we've been refering to, not an extention of the Ep. 12 opening scene. The excavation shot does not appear in Death and Rebirth.

The Excavation shot was also one of the "Tank Images" that were originally added to the Reiquarium scene in the Director's cut of Ep. 23. These images were removed for Renewal/Platinum, presumably because they were too hard to see, making it more like the On Air Version, though there were still many more Reis in the tank.

The Test Type disk was essentially an advertisement for Renewal. It had Ep. 01, the extended series opening, and an extended series close. --thewayneiac 22:20, Aug. 4, 2007 EDT.
1-Red Soul dots are from "Death and Rebirth". Check.
2-Single-frame shot flashed across screen, of Adam being excavated......it wasn't an "extended opening for episode 12" as I thought, it was "an extended opening sequence during Cruel Angel's Thesis which aired only on a special promotional disk for Renewal containing only Episode 1"?????....I was aware that it was one of the "Reiquarium montage" (apparently it appeared both in extended opening and Reiquarium....while I'm on the subject, was there anything else different about the extended opening or close included on the Test Type DVD?).....wait, you just said the Reiquarium scene was in the Director's Cut of Episode 23, but these were removed from Renewal (which contains same images as Platinum, I'll keep calling it Renewal here).....I thought Renewal was the set that DID contain the Director's Cut scenes. What? --V 22:43, 4 August 2007 (EDT)

It's been a while since I've seen the extended op., but I remember that it also included all of the other tank images, in a sequence Reichu calls "The Birth of Nerv." Here's a link to a page Reichu prepared for a potential analysis of this section of the extended op. [1] The left hand collumn shows the clean image, the right hand collumn shows it as it appeared in the tank sequence, when applicable. I also remember that the extended OP included a lot of footage from the series that could be considered spoilerish; they must have thought we had all already seen it. It's really more of a music video than an opening. I've only seen the extended close once, several years ago, but I seem to remember that the camera, so to speak, glides underwater for quite a while before popping to the surface to show Rei floating next to the Moon.

Yes, Renewal includes the Director's cut episodes. None of the new scenes that were added to the Director's Cuts were removed for Renewal, but for some reason, probably artistic, a couple of the scenes that were changed for the Director's cuts were reverted to the original for Renewal. The removal of the tank images was one of these reversions. This was the only part of this sequence that was reverted. The expanded Rei tank was retained from the original Director's cut, as was the trench with all the Eva bones. The On Air version has just a handfull of bones by comparison. Another reversion was in Rei's conversion with Armisael; in the original Director's cut this conversation takes place in a chamber with rounded walls, making it clear that Rei has somehow migrated to Unit-00's core. In Renewal the straight walls are back. --thewayneiac 23:34 EDT. Aug. 4, 2007.
(sigh) How were the Director's Cut episodes originally released, and what is a definative list of all of the differences between the Director's Cut (episodes 21-26) and Renewal, and between Renewal and the originally broadcast episodes?--V 03:42, 5 August 2007 (EDT)

Nitpick: There is NO "Director's Cut" episodes of 25 and 26. It's only the final two episodes of the TV Series, or the Theriatical Release versus Video Release of the Film EoE. I changed the line about "director's cuts of 25 and 26" to say "film version of 25 and 26", since the Renewal Feature Film (Death & EoE) is absent from the Platinum set. --Sailor Star Dust 18:22, 26 August 2007 (EDT)

Thank you SSD; for a while I was suspecting there were new scenes added to the final 2 episodes (which I tend to ignore). --V 18:31, 26 August 2007 (EDT)
