Misato is a Captain, and later a Major at Nerv.

Past

Misato is the daughter of Dr Katsuragi, who headed the Katsuragi Expedition. She is the only survivor of the expedition after its loss during second impact. Misato has joined Nerv in order to avenge her father's death. Misato and Ryohji Kaji were once lovers.

Tokyo-3

Misato is transfered to Tokyo-3 shortly before the Angels reappear. She takes Shinji Ikari and later Asuka Langley Sohryu into her home. Not longer after her arrival in Tokyo-3, Kaji is also stationed there and he is trying to re-kindle their relationship.

She has a pet house penguin named Pen-Pen.
