If he wasn't completely isolated at the start of this episode, I can understand he must feel numb at this point. Rei if anything was his confidant and someone he felt a kinship with. UrsusArctos: While I wouldn't call Rei his "confidant", he certainly had been opening up to her and he does put two and two together about the "kinship" part very soon...
