RITSUKO (OFF):“Mother, congratulations on the completion of the fundamental theory of Magi. This is not exactly a gift to celebrate it with, but my formal admission into Gehirn has been unofficially approved. I will be working on Project E starting next month.”

SECURITY GUARD (OFF):“Who's there?”

RITSUKO:“Technology Development Department, Ritsuko Akagi. Here's my ID.”

RITSUKO:“I heard the command center had been completed, so I came to see it, but this place is a maze.”

UrsusArctos: Ritsuko is a newcomer to Nerv and gets lost, just like Misato, although she's considerably more dignified about it. It also makes her "She got lost again?" from Episode 01 seem a little hypocritical in hindsight.

SECURITY GUARD (OFF):“If you want the command center, the Director and Dr. Akagi are there.”

UrsusArctos: Ritsuko's expression suddenly makes her look like a sullen teenager. The mention of her mother and Gendo together probably makes her uncomfortable - she has long had a huge crush on Gendo, after all.

AKAGI (OFF):“Are you really sure?”

IKARI:“Yes, I have no regrets concerning my work.”

AKAGI:“Liar! You just can't forget about Ms. Yui, right?”

UrsusArctos: This entire scene turns out to be quite revealing about Ritsuko's feelings about both her mother and Gendo. It also served as massive red herring, since it spawned a long ANF debate (now vanished from the internet) suggesting that Gendo's phrase "I have no regrets concerning my work" was what Gendo said to Ritsuko in his infamous silent line from EoE. Shin-Seiki and evaotaku have long since set the record straight on that one, though.

IKARI (OFF):“That's the headquarters for Gehirn.”

AKAGI:“Good morning, Director. Did you bring your child today?”

AKAGI:“Oh, but you have a son, if I'm not mistaken.”

UrsusArctos: This may be random, but I realized that the younger Ritsuko tends to distinguish herself from her mother in clothing style in addition to coloring her hair. She doesn't adopt her more familiar dressing style until she's taken her mom's place at Gendo's side.

IKARI:“This isn't Shinji. I'm taking care of a friend's daughter.”

IKARI:“Her name is Rei Ayanami.”

UrsusArctos: Given how the broad collar and the little bow resemble those of her middle-school uniform, I wonder if this is actually a uniform for kindergarten kids, rather than casual wear.
