204

205

SHINJI:“Isn't there a person in there?”

206

207

SHINJI:“Another child my own age.”

UrsusArctos: Shinji may not be thinking rationally here, but if Gendo had any sense, he would have convinced Shinji to disable the Eva and extract the pilot inside. But Gendo being Gendo fails at that.

Dr. Nick: The team strategy should have been obvious from the start: two Evas pin the zombie unit down, whilst the third rips the entry plug out, after which all that is hopefully needed is a quick shank to the core.

213

214

Mr. Tines: The Evangelion battle-somersault -- Shinji can deal it out (see Episode 02 Cut 262) but can't take it

UrsusArctos: There seems to be some kind of subtext to the use of the same drop-kick that Yui used on Sachiel, but I can't figure out what. Bardiel using Toji's memories to replicate the attack that left his sister injured? Bardiel deliberately replicating the attack used on Sachiel?

217

218

219

SHINJI (OFF):“An entry plug!”

220

SHINJI:“There is a person in there, just as I thought.”

Mr. Tines: Shinji throws his hands up at being faced with a trolley problem.

221

222

UrsusArctos: Whatever Bardiel did to Eva-03 to make it stretch its arms like Reed Richards or Luffy doesn't seem to have done any favors in terms of strength, and compared to the quick, efficient takedowns of the other two Evas this prolonged attempt at strangulation comes off as sloppy.

223

224

225

226

227

228

HYUGA (OFF):“Problems in life support!”

229

IBUKI (OFF):“The pilot's in danger!”

230

FUYUTSUKI:“Not good! Cut the synch rate to 60%!”

IKARI:“Wait!”

FUYUTSUKI:“But Ikari, at this rate, the pilot will die.”

IKARI:“Shinji, why don't you fight?”

231

SHINJI:“But there's a person in there, Father!”

232

IKARI:“Irrelevant! It is an Angel! Our enemy!”

233

SHINJI:“But... but I can't! I've got to save them! I can't just kill somebody!”

234

IKARI:“You'll die.”

235

SHINJI:“I don't care! It's better than killing someone!”

Dr. Nick: A typical real robot pilot has usually resolved this moral dilemma by episode 4 or so.

236

UrsusArctos: Gendo might be a right bastard but he briefly seems horrified that his son might want to die rather than live.

237

IKARI:“Never mind! Cut all synchronization between the pilot and Unit 01.”

238

IBUKI:“Cut it?”

IKARI:“Correct. Switch the control circuit to the dummy plug.”

239

IBUKI:“But the dummy system still has a lot of problems, and without Dr. Akagi's approval...”

240

IKARI:“It'll be of more use than the pilot. Do it!”

Mr. Tines: Harsh, but fair.

241

IBUKI:“Yes, Sir.”
