070

MISATO (OFF):“I'm home.”

ASUKA:“Welcome back.”

WOMAN (TELEVISION):“What do you mean? You're the one that wanted to break up!”

UrsusArctos: The dialogue between the woman and the man on the TV fit Kaji and Misato's relationship perfectly, albeit gender-flipped (the woman takes Kaji's POV while the man takes Misato's)

071

072

MISATO:“You'd better go to bed. Aren't you going on a date tomorrow?”

ASUKA:“Yeah, with a hunk.”

ASUKA:“Hey,”

MAN (TELEVISION):“I was wrong. I wasn't thinking back then.”

WOMAN (TELEVISION):“What are you saying at this late date?”

WOMAN (TELEVISION):“I don't know about you, but I'm a different person now!”

073

ASUKA:“that's right, let me use your lavender perfume!”

MISATO:“Absolutely not.”

MAN (TELEVISION):“But I still love you!”

074

ASUKA:“Jeez, cheapskate!”

075

MISATO:“It's not for kids. Is Shinji in his room?”

WOMAN (TELEVISION):“Time and people are two things that can't be turned back to the way they were!”

WOMAN (TELEVISION):“I can never go back to the way I was!”

076

ASUKA:“He's been in there since he got back.”

ASUKA:“It looks like he doesn't want to see his father.”

ASUKA:“If he doesn't want to, he should just say so. I don't understand the Japanese.”

MAN (TELEVISION):“But I really do still love you!”

WOMAN (TELEVISION):“I'm telling you, it's impossible!”

WOMAN (TELEVISION):“It took me three years to forget you! It's too late!”

077

MISATO:“Well, it's not that he doesn't want to. That's the problem.”

078

079

080

IKARI:“Leave!”

081

082

083

084

085

086

IKARI (OFF):“Well done,”

087

IKARI (OFF):“Shinji.”

088

MISATO:“Shinji?”

089

090

MISATO (OFF):“I'm opening the door.”

091

092

MISATO:“Are you scared? Of seeing your father by yourself?”

093

094

MISATO:“You can't keep running away. Unless you take that step forward, nothing will change.”

095

SHINJI:“I know that!”

MISATO (OFF):“You'll begin to realize,”

096

MISATO:“after that first step, it's just as important to keep going.”

097

MISATO:“Anyway, go see him tomorrow with your chin held high, because you'll be seeing your mother too. Well, good night.”

UrsusArctos: Ironically, Shinji has been seeing (and piloting) his mother all this time but neither of them know that...yet.

098

ASUKA (OFF):“Hey, you bought a new dress for tomorrow, didn't you? Let me see!”

MISATO (OFF):“Oh, you want to see? It was expensive, you know.”

ASUKA (OFF):“Taste is more important than price.”

MISATO (OFF):“I've got that down pat.”

ASUKA (OFF):“Did you pick based on Mr. Kaji's taste and stuff after all?”

MISATO (OFF):“I think not. Not anymore.”

UrsusArctos: Asuka's quite a bit more sensible than she lets on! Whether or not Misato picked that dress according to Kaji's taste, Asuka never asked about her choice of footwear as it turns out. Sartorial choices and taste vs. price aside, Shinji's back to his usual state. The pattern on the floor actually resembles the concentric squares on the Nerv armored shutters in Central Dogma, so while it may not be the familiar concentric octagons of the A.T. Field it conveys the same meaning, a lot more subtly.
