ASUKA:“What are you, stupid? Strange beings are attacking us. If you're going through a fire, you've got to brush away the embers, of course!”

UrsusArctos: The contrast between the two is pretty striking. Shinji seems to have had the Angel question in mind for a while, but waited until things were truly abnormal to wonder aloud why he was fighting Angels. Asuka, however, has zero curiosity about her enemy, and can't understand why someone would be curious about them either.

dzzthink: Throughout this episode, Asuka berates and dismisses Shinji for his philosophical dialogues. He does have a good point in questioning what these Angels are and their motives since they always seem to be attacking Nerv at one specific place.

Zusuchan: It's little moments like these that showcase Shinji can actually be quite smart and thoughtful. It's a shame he refuses to really utilize those capabilities most of the time, though.
