UrsusArctos: As far as I know, no warship uses an escalator, and there's a variety of reasons for that. I guess this was artistic license to avoid the complexity of depicting the characters clambering up ladders and through hatches while keeping things more serious than the previous elevator scene. Kensuke, true to form, thinks even an escalator is worth obsessing about if it's on an aircraft carrier.
