Talk:Geektionary
Sharpening the Axe
I'm fairly insistent on slicing this thing down (before it gets built back up somewhat), so let's get started. Hopefully, people in addition to poor Wayne here will pitch in with comments. (looks around slowly with big owl eyes)
Note that I am operating under the thought-process that the future articles on "Fandom"-related issues will be written in an informal style (because it wouldn't be any fun otherwise).
- Addition Drama Track: We'll have a local page on the Addition CD that can provide coverage.
- ADV: There is probably a better place for this stuff.
- Akira: My impression is that this is a forced Reichu-meme of no actual significance.
- AMV: This would get an article in "Fandom". It was a lame entry anyway.
- ANF: Split off to a "Fandom" article on online NGE communities.
- Angel Tower: Which this thing is a noteworthy observation, does anyone ever actually call it "Angel Tower"?
- Angelic Days: Not needed, unless people think that "Every time you say Angelic Days..." thing is actually funny.
- Apostle: No one uses it. Axe.
- Bridge Entity: Ditto.
- DotS: Stays, but receives a Critical Update.
- EGK: The EoE redesign bit comes up often enough (probably in part due to this entry...) to warrant keeping it, but I'm worried about the actual acronym, which nobody really seems to use.
- EMF: See ANF.
- F-Type Equipment: This one seems forced.
- FAR: They have an article. Axe.
- Food Court: Relocate to "Fan Parodies" article.
- Gender: Gender of Angels stuff reworked into a Random Chaos page. Seed/Eva shit eventually reworked into horrifying T&A articles (with the help of this ginormous document Ornette compiled a while back). It might be mentioned that the Gender/Sex of Non-Lilim Persons has had a tradition of coming up (though it hasn't done so in a while) in forum threads, usually to the effect that most people don't give a shit.
- GGNR: Not used. Axe.
- GOS: Since this thing will have a dedicated article now, why does it need a Geektionary entry, too? (Other than to mock it, and all.)
- -gouki: Probably should stay.
- Herr Lorenz: Never used. Axe.
- GSF: Too old for anyone to care anymore.
- HIP: Something for an etymology subheading of the relevant article.
- Live Action Sequence: Would have its own article or something.
- LoL: Should probably stay, albeit get refined somewhat.
- Mandorla: Never used. Axe.
- MPB: Covered in its article. Axe.
- MGNR: I can't even recall the last time I saw this one. It probably shouldn't stay, though.
- Mogitai: Doesn't show up in Weeaboo-speek (unlike the -gouki stuff). Axe.
- N^2: Axe for obvious reasons.
Well, that's a start. --Reichu 16:14, 22 August 2007 (EDT)
Strikethrough
Do you save after every change you make or something, Wayne? ;;p
BTW, you do strikethrough like this er, <s>like this</s>. --Reichu 15:08, 22 August 2007 (EDT)
- In a really long article it's easier to edit by the section than to edit the whole page. If this were something short like an episode page I'd do all the changes at once. Thanks for the strikethrough tip. --thewayneiac Aug. 22, 2007 15:20 EDT.
- "No problemo". --Reichu 16:14, 22 August 2007 (EDT)
Initial Bout
Is there some way to tell this article's size? Will we have to spread it over multiple pages? --the wayneiac Aug. 14, 2007. 16:06 EDT.
- Kudos on your initiative, Wayne. ^_^ v
- I've actually been thinking that the Geektionary shouldn't survive the transition to MediaWiki intact. I was planning on splitting out the "actual information" to the relevant places, and there would be pages listing memes/lingo/acronyms, fan parodies, "significant personalities", and so forth. Releases and other officialities get their own pages, as well. A number of insignificant Reichu-isms would die in the transition, like "Akira" (unless someone actually wants that to stay), "Apostle", "Bridge Entity", "Mandorla", etc. (although "Fem-Kaworu" would need to be put back in after all...). We can use this opportunity to begin The Butcherings and the Revisions. Forum thread might be better at the moment. --Reichu 16:31, 14 August 2007 (EDT)
Has a picture of the Angel Tower been uploaded yet? I should probably link to a pic here rather than to the one on the old site. --thewayneiac Aug. 21, 2007 19:59 EDT.
- BTW, since the Geektionary seems to need to be broken down into subpages, the main page should be the branch-off point, i.e., it links to the sub-pages, instead of being Part 1 with a link to Part 2 at the end.
- When should we start the butchering? (Gendo leer) --Reichu 20:40, 21 August 2007 (EDT)
Good idea. I'll put links to all the sections in each section tomorrow. Thanks for the pic. As for butchering, I'll look it over and see what seems normal enough to move to regular articles. Most of it, however, seems esoteric enough to stay right where it is. We can always link to the Geektionary when neccessary. --thewayneiac Aug. 21, 2007 21:05 EDT.
