Her Japanese designation, Shogouki, translates literally into something like “First Unit,” but we already know that Anno doesn't always use literal translations for the English-language equivalents. However, people have grown so accustomed to seeing “Unit-01” (exact notation differs) in their subtitles (or hearing it in the dub) that they're going to keep on using the “U” word no matter how much I complain. ::P A rather petty niggle, I'll admit.
