RITSUKO:“I hadn't paid any attention to her for so long, but now, suddenly, I'll never see her again.”
IKARI:“Why did you destroy the dummy system?”
RITSUKO:“Not the dummy system, what I destroyed was Rei.”
IKARI:“I will only ask you this once. Why?”
RITSUKO:“Because I am no longer happy, even when you make love to me.
Why don't you just have your way with my body?!
Like you did that time!”
IKARI:“I'm disappointed in you.”
RITSUKO:“Disappointed?!
You never hoped or expected anything from me to begin with!
Nothing from me! Not anything! Nothing!”
Dr. Nick: Ritsuko is probably the most clear-cut expy of an Ideon character in Evangelion, her original being Sheryl Formosa, the lady scientist who snaps spectacularly in the concluding movie. Even their character designs are fairly similar, but although their final character beats are the same, the motivations are inverted: Sheryl meets her end trying to awaken the Ide in a crazed act of self-preservation, whereas Ritsuko goes out attempting a spiteful murder-suicide.
dzzthink: It is quite shocking to see such an independent person being suddenly so reliant on Gendo.
UrsusArctos: Ritsuko was always reliant on Gendo emotionally like her mother before her, and it was evident as far back as Episode 15. As much as she loathes her own stupidity for doing so, the murder-suicide attempt at the end shows her inability to break free of him (and the fact that Naoko, as a woman, was no different)
