Screenshots Cut # Description/Dialogue Commentary

001B

ATTENDEE A (OFF):“The hypothetical became reality. Talk about unlucky, the proponent becoming the test subject herself.”

ATTENDEE B (OFF):“Then, that contact experiment was the direct cause?”

ATTENDEE A (OFF):“Mental breakdown, that was the result of the contact.”

ATTENDEE B (OFF):“But how cruel is it to commit suicide, leaving such a young daughter behind?”

ATTENDEE C (OFF):“No, there might actually be more to this than that.”

UrsusArctos: All of the dialogue hints at what happened to Asuka's mother to drive her crazy in the first place. Interestingly enough, the dialogue does not reference Yui at all, although Asuka is older than Shinji was when Yui had her contact experiment and outright disappeared in the Eva. Perhaps Kyoko's contact experiment occurred before Yui's and she remained alive (and mad) for a prolonged period of time before finally committing suicide. If that's the case, Asuka, whose birthday makes her several months younger than Shinji, could remember nothing of her but her mad side. Poor kid. :(
