UrsusArctos: That's one heck of an awkward way to carry Eva-02. We'll see other instances of Evangelions being carried in positions where it'd be impossible for the aircraft to lower their landing gear later in the series, but this looks to be the first chronologically. (Note that Eva-01, in contrast, is fitted flush under its aircraft)
Mr. Tines: While we've seen an Eva drop from being transported back in Episode 07 (Cut 245 et seq.), the logistics of the take-off are more challenging.
