Talk:Japanese Strategic Self Defense Force
Oh crud, should this be spelled with a hyphen between "Self" and "Defense" to make it "Self-Defence Force"?--V 19:00, 2 August 2007 (EDT)
I had to roll back what was largely speculation and such. I will salvage what is salvagable. --V 19:47, 18 August 2007 (EDT)
- 'Scuse me? My contributions were based on comparison with real-world military organizations and tactics. I don't think what you've replaced them with is much better, especially that nonsense about the JSSDF being some kind of meta-force with control of all the other SDF branches. If we compare it to, say, the ASDF units and personnel seen in E1, it's pretty clear that the SSDF is an independent multi-purpose force, like the USMC. --BobBQ 12:48, 29 October 2007 (AT)
- 1 - "based on the Waffen-SS of Nazi Germany" ; not really. I think you're really just drawing generalities there. The comparisons with the Waffen-SS and Blitzkrieg were kind of drawn out.
- 2 - Thank you for bringing this up on the Talk page as opposed to just reverting the article back.
- 3 - My understanding is that "the JSSDF" is what the current "JSDF" got reorganized into post-Second Impact, and the "JASDF" etc. are sub-branches of the JSSDF. Case in point, in episode 10 the JSSDF generals say they need to warn Tokyo-3 about an approaching Angel, so they send a plane, which is marked "JASDF", so I think its under their jurisdiction. I think they made it pretty clear that the JSSDF is the "new JSDF", and its not that the JSDF still exists and the JSSDF is recruited from its upper echelons or something: is there some evidence you can point to that backs up the other thing? They don't just the "JASDF" enough to really clearly establish this (btw, when did we see the "JGSDF". Yes, I found it odd that within the series, "the JSSDF" seems to have its own planes, ships, tanks, etc. (multiplatform, like the USMC) yet they also have a dedicated JASDF. Is there some omake somewhere that explains this more fully? If not, judging from what was on-screen it looks like "JASDF" is part of "the JSSDF" which as superceded the "JSDF". Please supply any of that info if you can think of any, I'd hate to be wrong.--V 17:04, 29 October 2007 (PDT)
