The events of the different continuities are all referenced by their date, and by the time before or after the [[Second Impact]] (stated as September 13th, 2000 in the original series). Events that take place ''before'' Second Impact will be denoted as B2I (eg. the Earth was formed roughly 4,600,000,000 years B21), while events following the Second Impact will be denoted as A2I (eg. [[Shinji Ikari]] was born June 6 2001, or 8 months, 24 days A2I). This information will be used mostly for approximation, when specific dates are not available.<ref>Approximation is based on information currently available, assessed by it's weight in the canon. This is a complete timeline of all of the official continuities of Evangelion, by date where available. The information for different Tiers of Canonicity is colour-coded for simplicity sake, [1]

Assumptions

Due to the nature of Evangelion's different continuities, some assumptions must be made. The assumptions are as follows:

Sequel Theory Does Not Apply

A prevailing theory regarding differences between the Original Series and the New Theatrical Version is that the Rebuild movies are a sequel to the Original Series. Due to the uncertainty of this theory and its implications, this Timeline assumes that Sequel Theory doesn't apply.

The Anime and Manga are Different Continuities

There is information in the Original Manga that expands on information in the Original Anime Series, and vice versa. This timeline assumes that the two series are different continuities, since there are discrepancies between the two continuities as well.

Notation

Time Scale

The events of the different continuities are all referenced by their date, and by the time before or after the Second Impact (stated as September 13th, 2000 in the original series). Events that take place before Second Impact will be denoted as B2I (eg. the Earth was formed roughly 4,600,000,000 years B2I), while events following the Second Impact will be denoted as A2I (eg. Shinji Ikari was born June 6 2001, or 8 months, 24 days A2I). This information will be used mostly for approximation, when specific dates are not available.[2]

Colour Coding

For organization's sake, statments in this timeline will be organized according to the following chart, compiled using the Tiers of Canonicity. The tiers and their corresponding colours are as follows:

Colour Tier
Red Tier 1: The Anime Itself and its Scripts and Storyboards.
Green Tier 2: Statements made by the show's creators, principally Anno.
Blue Tier 3: Official Supplemental Sources.
Orange Tier 4: The Manga.[3]
Purple Tier 5: Statements Made by Those who Distribute Eva outside of Japan.

Timeline

  1. The tiers of Canonicity are a wiki-developed system to prioritize different sources on Evangelion canon. See Theory and Analysis:What Is Canon? for more information.
  2. Approximation is based on information currently available, assessed by it's weight in the canon. Please help decipher key information in the discussion.
  3. Only used outside of the Manga Continuity when it backs up information in other continuities.
