But the truth was that he was just a weak person running away from reality, the reality called his family. He was like a kid. I readily agreed with my mother when she decided to divorce him, because she was always crying. It seemed to have come as a shock to him, but at the time, I laughed at him because I felt he'd brought it on himself.”	UrsusArctos: Gendo and Dr. Katsuragi have a lot in common, and the "weak person running away from the reality called his family" description fits Gendo to a T. Of course, this is difficult to spot in Gendo because of his cold, harsh exterior shell, but it turns out to be evident by the end. Shinji and Misato, likewise, have more in common than is otherwise evident, and it's easy to see from this scene why Misato truly is Evangelion's deuteragonist.
