Noticed one of the chapters of Hegel's Phenomenology of the Spirit is called "[https://www.marxists.org/reference/archive/hegel/works/ph/phc2b3.htm Absolute Freedom and Terror]." Besides the Evas, and that N2 mine, Ramiel's ATF was taken down with a positron rifle using all the power of Japan. Note that positron rifles aren't necessarily "conventional", as technically, they're impossible to build with current technology. --Ornette 14:39, 20 August 2007 (EDT)

Possible Psychological Origin of A.T. Fields

Need to find the academic paper discussing it still, but an interesting idea nonetheless. Had this discussion with a friend a day or two ago.

Put simply, there is a concept in child psychology that a child has a region of safety around their "home base" - be it their home or primary residence, or the place they feel safest at. This home base may relocate throughout their growth and development, and as it moves and the child grows, the region of safety around them also expands. This is purportedly why youth living on their own for the first time experience a rapid growth in maturity and comfort - their region of safety expands. Contrast this with the A.T. field in Evangelion. As pilots become more comfortable and experience personal growth piloting their evas, their link with the eva should also increase - and so should the strength and range of the Eva's A.T. field. As for how "absolute terror" correlates with this theory, well, it can be fairly safely assumed that leaving one's region of safety entirely would be a very terrifying and traumatic experience. This should only be done in small incremental steps of exploration and discovery. In the case of evangelion, an eva without its A.T. field or (if it were possible) outside of its A.T. field would be completely vulnerable to the dangers of angels, as it is their primary method of protection.

Hegel

Noticed one of the chapters of Hegel's Phenomenology of the Spirit is called "Absolute Freedom and Terror." Could the AT field possibly be a reference to this? Chaosakita (talk) 23:59, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
