There's many instances of NGE skewering with traditional gender roles and characters' qualities that don't conform to their gender roles aren't shown as inherently wrong. People like Kaji, Shinji, Asuka have non-masculine and non-feminine qualities, but those are shown as just natural parts of them as people. If anything, I feel NGE on the whole doesn't consider the idea of traditional gender roles and a clear divide between genders/sexes as serious issues worth clearly considering or upholding. This comment is most likely just a way to move the plot-and besides, Hikari is absolutely the kind of boring little girl who's stuck in tradition and the "normal" status quo.}} | ||
