Abandon ship!

"It does seem that after Adam awoke and was about to initiate Second Impact, Katsuragi tried as hard as he could to lessen the effects of the explosion.": Actually, I think he hot-footed it out of there and let everyone else deal with the mess. If he stuck around, it couldn't have been for very long -- note the glove he left on that fencing. --Reichu 11:00, 13 August 2007 (EDT)

Did Katsuragi abandon his own team to save Misato? I got the impression, based on the UN report video, that he was doing what he could to stop Adam from awakening, but when Adam actually fully awoke it was too late, most of the team died, he was pretty much the only one still alive, so half-alive he runs to save Misato; after all of the team and their equipment was trashed. And didn't Misato say in episode 12 that her father didn't fight it when her mother asked for a divorce?--V 13:22, 13 August 2007 (EDT)
As indicated by the glove, Dr. K had clearly beat it before Adam unleashed her "Big Boom Attack" (the one that terminates the video session); he and Misato probably would have needed to be inside the shaft linking Geofront to ground level at the time to have survived at all. The people downstairs were clearly wiped out, and upstairs, well... it's a wasteland of burnt and dismembered corpses.
There were some 36 minutes between when Adam started glowing and when she killed our cameraman, so I guess exactly when the Doc scrambled for/with Misato and got caught in some explosion is up for grabs. Note that they were injured before the cold weather gear went on, so he'd have been limping by the time he ripped his glove on that fencing.
Also, check out the episode 12 script for yourself. ;;> Very handy things, those scripts... (But, yeah, she does say '...I laughed at him, because I felt he had brought it upon himself'.) --Reichu 13:58, 13 August 2007 (EDT)
UPDATE: I removed the part about Dr. K "abandoning" the team. The line of thought would probably be a bit more at home in some T&A page about the Second Impact timeline... --Reichu 23:55, 13 August 2007 (EDT)

In terms of Dr. K "abandoning" the team, note that about half an hour gets skipped on the tape at the beginning of Episode 21, between when all hell breaks loose and when we see Dr. K's glove at surface level. --V 22:52, 21 August 2007 (EDT)

Well, that glove wouldn't be there if he hadn't left his people before the bitter end. --Reichu 23:04, 21 August 2007 (EDT)

Good Girl

"Due to his absence, his wife developed chronic depression, and Misato lived a joyless childhood of being a "good girl" who helped shoulder the burdens her father left behind...and the young Misato mocked him, feeling he had "brought [the situation] upon himself"." -->er, what's this "good girl" stuff from? And she didn't mock him at the time, right? --V 19:43, 20 August 2007 (EDT)

CHILD MISATO: I have to be a good girl. Because my dad's not around. I have to help my mom and be a good girl. But I don't want to become like my mom, because she's always crying when my dad isn't here. No crying, no being spoiled. That's why I have to be a good girl. And I'm going to do my best so my dad won't hate me." (25)
MISATO: He never took care of me, my mother or the family. His friends always said he was very sensitive and delicate. But the truth was that he was just a weak person running away from reality, the reality called his family. He was like a kid. I readily agreed with my mother when she decided to divorce him, because she was always crying. It seemed to have come as a shock to him, but at the time, I laughed at him because I felt he'd brought it on himself. (12)
