Template talk:Pub List

Another template required for a long-needed undertaking. This actually requires a number of considerations.

First of all, various volumes pertaining to video games and manga count as "official publications", but their inclusion here -- unless placed inside subsections that could be expanded and hidden at will -- would really bloat the template. Not sure what to do about that.

One thing I've done: When books occur in a series, and there is more to say about them as a whole than each one specifically, I figure all volumes can just be lumped together onto a single page, hence why I specified single articles for such things as the five Groundwork books, the five storyboard collections, the three Original (script draft) books, and so forth. If anyone thinks this is a bad idea, they should speak up.

Another problem is exactly WHAT titles (as in article titles) the various books (or series of books) should be filed under. Some books have multiple titles (sort of like the Neon Genesis Evangelion / Shinseiki Evangelion dichotomy). Perhaps more importantly, a vast majority of them have excruciatingly LOOOOONG titles that, if used to name articles, would generate incredible amounts of pain in the long term. For example, most titles are prefaced by the incredibly lengthy (on its own) "Neon Genesis Evangelion", and THEN you have the actual descriptive part. E.g., does anyone REALLY want an article entitled "Neon Genesis Evangelion: Newtype 100% Collection"? Or, since we're obviously not going to have an article on, say, "Mobile Suit Gundam: Newtype 100% Collection", is it well and fine to just abbreviate the article title to "Newtype 100% Collection"?

I'm also curious what to do about the Rebuild books. The ones I have so far don't actually have English titles printed anywhere on them; "EVA:1.0 YOU ARE (NOT) ALONE" is floating dumped somewhere on the cover, and the actual title is furnished in Japanese, and would literally be translated into something extremely wordy such as "Evangelion the New Movies: Prologue Complete Records Collection" or some crap like that. If we swap the Japanese movie title out for the English one, you still get something quite long: "Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone Complete Records Collection", which really isn't any better. Is simply abbreviating the movie title to "Evangelion 1.0" in the name of a publication's article (which is what I already did) the best course of action? --Reichu 16:01, 26 June 2008 (PDT)
