Talk:Episode 10

Points:

  • Long "summary" is long.
  • "Misato is seen drinking "Boa" brand beer as opposed to her favored Yebisu brand (possibly as a result of the network that the series first aired on complaining that they didn't want to give the real-world Yebisu beer company unpaid publicity).": Sure you're not thinking of Yebichu? "Boa" is a sci-fi reference, in any case. I'm too lazy to look it up; Dr. Nick probably remembers.
  • "Maya Ibuki spends her free time reading a romance novel": How can you tell?
  • "Kaji seems to be plotting against Nerv, as seen when he makes a clandestine meeting with a woman on the cable car.": Is "having multiple jobs" the same as "plotting"?
  • "The Angel Sandalphon succeeds in biting off Eva Unit 02's left leg at the knee": Would be hard, considering Sandy's mouth is planted on 02's helmet at the time. (See Sandalphon's article; I corrected the "biting" boo-boo there.) Also, instead of having all this speculation on Eva repairs here, wouldn't the Evangelion article be a better place?

  • 1-I agree but I'm going to work on revising the synopsis sections last we have more important work to do, 2-a scifi reference? Please get Dr.Nick to explain. Wikipedia spells it as Yebisu, so I think that's what it is. 3-I kind of thought it was a romance novel 4-Well, yeah, plotting 5-oh, sorry, it's really hard to see with so much red in the shot; it rips the leg off with its "arm". --V 16:35, 25 August 2007 (EDT)

Woman with cute puppy vs Crazy Cat Lady from episode 15: are these meant to be the same character? alright, the extent of their "plotting" is that she asks if Kaji could have stopped the A-17 order from being given, and he says it was beyond his control; though it does seem notable that Misato thought he wouldn't be anywhere near Mt. Asama and yet he actually is there watching them. --V 16:40, 25 August 2007 (EDT)

I stopped being lazy and just searched my e-mail for "Yebichu". Message dated February 2005 (lol):
This is what the trusty old JAE FAQ says:
3.3.2 Beer and coffee facts
---------------------
The name of Misato's beer was changed to Yebichu when it was aired on TV and then to Yebisu for the Video release. Boa Beer and it's brand name :: "Kuroshio Bussan" are references to the Boa Juice from "Sora Tobu Yurei Sen" a 1969 SF anime movie.
She drinks coffee, after Kaji's death. "UCG" is a reference to an actual coffee brand called "UCC" (Anno's favourite coffee brand ^^).
Information supplied by Olivier Hague
And another tidbit from Sage's ancient "Super FAQ" (which never evolved beyond version 0.6.1.1):
3.14) Is that Real Beer that Misato Drinks?
Yes and no. One brand that Misato drinks is Yebisu, which is definitely a real beer. However, after complaints by the brewers, in episode 2 the ::name was changed to "Yebichu", which may also be a homage to a manga series, "Oruchuban Yebichu". According to Carl Horn the brand name was ::retracted because the TV network which broadcast the series objected because the brewers of "Yebisu" did not advertise with them, and didn't want ::to give the brewers free publicity!
The other is Boa, which appears to be a homage to the anime film "Sora Tobu Yuurei Sen" (1969). In this film Boa juice is a highly addictive
and poisonous beverage.
The "may be a homage" part is BS, but Yebichu is more a matter for episode 07.
Maya is reading a nondescript novel; there's no indication as to what genre. Also look at the Sandalphon article; the script provides a peculiar detail about the "leg-ripping" bit. Dog Lady and Cat Lady are completely different people. --Reichu 17:14, 25 August 2007 (EDT)
Okay. This info is great. Well I thought we should call it "Yebisu" as it was returned to this form for the DVD release. So is Dog Lady just "another contact"?--V 17:26, 25 August 2007 (EDT)
Yebichu is actually still intact in some episodes -- see e.g. 07. (Too lazy to upload screenie at the moment.)
I guess Dog Lady's a "contact". I'm not really an expert on Kaji's "part-time jobs" (as Misato put it). One of my sources might say something, but that would be a mission for later on. --Reichu 18:14, 25 August 2007 (EDT)
My mistake was that as I understood it, it was universally reverted to "Yebisu" for the DVD. Apparently it was not. We need a list. When we get to it, which is not now. --V 18:22, 25 August 2007 (EDT)

Okay, I think I assumed Maya was reading a romance novel; do the production notes give any hint as to what she is reading; what do they say for this scene?--V 10:42, 26 August 2007 (EDT)

You are not the only one to assume the same; I've seen this assumption repeated before. Is it because of the look on her face when reading it? Whatever it is, can't say for sure it's romance. --UrsusArctos 11:21, 26 August 2007 (EDT)
Script says it's a "novel". --Reichu 11:39, 26 August 2007 (EDT)
I'll go with "novel" then. --V 11:54, 26 August 2007 (EDT)
