UrsusArctos: In contrast to the visibly delighted Rei in Episode 05, the fact that Rei never said "thank you" to Gendo even after the rescue from the Entry Plug demonstrates that their relationship isn't nearly as close as we were led to believe earlier. Of course, Gendo being severely emotionally stunted is partly to blame.
