"Disambiguation" is the process of resolving the conflict that occurs when articles about two or more different topics have the same natural title. Essentially, more than one article has the name "Ikari" in it (Gendo, Shinji, Yui) so if someone searches for or creates a link to "Ikari" it will go to a disambiguation page, which lists all articles by the name. Another example would be that there are in fact three separate cities called "Tokyo" in the Evangelion storyline, and thus they thus must be disambiguated.
