Asuka's ethnicity is a matter of some concern, and I investigated it here: [[Talk:Asuka Langley Soryu#Nationality]] and it was brought up in a length current threat in the forums in which Reichu displayed an ingenious chart. Basically, material from Eva Chronicle and other official resources confirms that Asuka's mother Kyoko is half-German, half-Japanese, and her father is just "American". Obviously to a multi-ethnic North American audience, this seems a bit odd, but they treat "American" as if its an ethnicity.
