I'm at some stage between regular and lurker, having seen the early days of what would become this project and having some limited involvement, but a lot less than the masterminds of the whole deal. My three-to-four year absence didn't help much. Still, I'm always here, waiting...

I’ve been a fan of the series since the summer of 2002. I fixate almost entirely on character analysis, dissecting the motivations and drives of the human characters without relying on any particular psychological theory but just viewing it in terms of what happens in the series. This preference likely comes from my English lit background.

As a consequence, my knowledge of/interest in the true mysteries of NGE, and the theories surrounding them, remain lacking. I don't follow any big misconceptions, but rather just absorb what the bigger people on the project are discussing in a, "Yeah, let's go with that" fashion, then get back to doing what I like. Sometimes understanding the true mysteries is necessary for character analysis, but I manage to limp along somehow.

Because of this interest in characterization, I might be one of the few people able to work up a burning enthusiasm for EoTV: though really, it's pretty bad as endings go, and I'm very thankful for EoE.

My favourite character is also Shinji Ikari, out of a writer’s appreciation for his affecting characterization, though that mutates into fangirlish tendencies sometimes. But don’t mistake me for the kind of fangirl who likes to treat him as an innocent victim: I come to praise Shinji and to bury him.

I also count Kaworu as the only other character I truly love as opposed to just enjoying studying. But I'm not a shipper for the two, though I've got nothing against teh ghey or yaoi. Shipping them runs counter to how I read the two characters’ relationship: Kaworu is there to foreshadow Shinji’s rejection of the perfect life in Instrumentality, as Shinji must in both cases kill the ideal to regain reality. Shinji also shows no personal interest in Kaworu, only receiving, never giving.

But Kaworu and Shinji do form a perfect nonsexual binary, being the extreme "real" character and the extreme "ideal" character, and Kaworu himself is tremendously attractive and frustrating from a character analysis viewpoint, because so little is said about his mind and motivations. That might be fitting to his symbolic status, but it hurts regardless.

Outside this fandom, I'm trying to scavenge a living on jobs that are ideally in some way related to the English language, such as library, copywriting, and archival work, and on the side become a fantasy/sci-fi author.

I've been an animation fan all my life, and consider myself a generalist when it comes to the nationality involved. I love North American and Japanese animation equally, and often for the same reasons. I have also, through no fault of my own, developed a minor obsession with pterosaurs, though that also extends to most things scaly. Some series/franchises of interest to me include Transformers (original and Beast Wars), Disney’s Gargoyles, Neil Gaiman’s Sandman series, assorted Gundam, Hellsing, Pet Shop of Horrors, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Saint Seiya, Digimon Tamers, and Invader Zim.

My picture there used to be a fairly ugly doodle of myself, and I swapped it with a picture of the initial cartoon version of Janine Melnitz from The Real Ghostbusters. It's how I see myself, the dowdy secretary helping other people do the important work, but still able to kick some ass once in a while.

My username is a faux-Latinized version of "incisive", meaning sharp or keen and usually referring to writing. It started out as a Transformer fan character name, inspired by names like "Cyclonus" and "Rodimus".
