Suicide by opening a vein and imersing oneself in a warm bath (to prevent coagulation and closure of the wound) was a well-attested practice in Roman times, typically resorted to by those on the losing side of a political conflict, or those who had incured the wrath of the emperor, and were offered the option of taking the honorable way out (thereby sparing their families).  See also the movie Godfather III...--[[User:Shin-seiki|Shin-seiki]] 08:54, 2 September 2007 (EDT)
