N² Weapon

The N² Mine (or N² Bomb) is a clean "Non-Nuclear weapon", the strongest "conventional" (non-Evangelion) weapon ever created by Man. N² Mines are as strong as a nuclear bomb and generate an electro-magnetic pulse, but produce no radioactive fallout, allowing them to be used more readily than older fallout-creating nuclear weapons. N² Mines are capable of harming even several of the weaker Angels, though they are only able to cause moderate damage, and against several of the stronger Angels multiple N² Mine detonations have no effect.

• "N² Mine" is the translation that the official English dub uses, but "N² Bomb" would also be a sufficient translation. The original Japanese term used is "heiki", which literally just means "weapon": Japanese has no distinct terms differentiating between "mines" and "bombs". The translation "N² Mine" is not quite correct, because they are not used in the series the way normal mines are traditionally used (they are actively fired at or dropped on Angels; they are not deployed around Tokyo-3 in a static defensive screen.
• "N² Mine" is always spelled with a superscript "2", when it appears in print in the series. However it is not pronounced "N-squared", but simply "N-two".
