Server space is not unlimited so there are restriction on the size of images allowed. When uploading an image please take note of the following guidelines.

  • The image should be in jpeg, jpg, png or gif format. Uncompressed formats like bmp are not accepted (Due to the space they consume). jpg should be used for images that need thumbnails due to coloration issues.
  • The image should be less than 150KB. However, in general, the image should be made as small as possible.
  • Try to keep TV images at around a size of approximately 252x189 pixels. For movie widescreen images, try to keep to a size of 336x189 pixels. You can deviate slightly from these sizes where appropriate.
  • For smaller thumbnail images, try to keep the size of TV thumbnails approximately 156x117 pixels, and the size of movie widescreen thumbnails approximately 208x117 pixels. Thumbnails should be kept under 10KB in size and as small as possible.
  • If a thumbnail, or simply smaller sized image is required, try to use the wiki's automatic resize features on an existing image rather than uploading a new one.

In addition, the following considerations should also be noted.

  • For larger images, be sure to put a "Copyright Gainax" logo somewhere on the image.
  • Ensure the image is actually needed and there is no suitable alternative. See Category: Images for a current list of images on the server.
  • The image should have a suitable name. 01.gif or Shinji.gif are not very descriptive. Shinji_in_plugsuit.jpg would be a more helpful name.
  • Make sure to add the image to an appropriate Image category so that it can be easily looked up.

These guidelines are not absolute. However, do not stray outside them unless

  1. You have made a bona fide attempt to comply but are unable to completely satisfy all guidelines
  2. Your life would otherwise be in danger
  3. You really want to

Invoking the third rule will always get Reichu involved. Stick to the first two rules if trouble arises.
