UrsusArctos: Weirdly, cuts 112-124, which would normally go just before the mid-episode eyecatch, have been shifted here and are composed of recycled scenes from the end of Episode 19.

114

115

MISATO:“It's eating the Angel?”

116

117

118

119

120

RITSUKO:“And now those bindings”

121

RITSUKO:“are being undone by the Eva's own might.”

122

RITSUKO (OFF):“We can no longer stop the Eva.”

123

KAJI (OFF):“Unit 01's been awakened and set free.”

124

KAJI:“Seele won't stay quiet for this.”

001

002

KEEL:“But without that man, we could not have executed all of our plans.”

COMMITTEEMAN ?:“The Eva Series aren't capable of generating S2 engines themselves.”

COMMITTEEMAN ?:“We never imagined it would take one into itself this way.”

COMMITTEEMAN ?:“This incident is at extreme odds with our script.”

COMMITTEEMAN ?:“It will not be easy to correct for this.”

COMMITTEEMAN ?:“Were we not mistaken to have entrusted Nerv to Gendo Ikari in the first place?”

UrsusArctos: The positioning of the Seele meeting here suggests that it took place right after Eva-01 ingested Zeruel's S2 engine, so great was the threat to their much-talked-about scenario.

Mbryo: It's only natural that the old men of Seele are shocked. Their own attempts to artificially install an S2 engine on Unit 04 was a complete failure, so who would've thought that it could be accomplished with a method as simple as plain old ingestion?

003

KEEL:“Ikari, what are you thinking?”

Mbryo: While there were minor disagreements between Seele and Gendo in the previous episodes as well, this is where Seele begins to really question Gendo's ulterior motives. This is also the last time that the members of Seele appear on-screen as the Human Instrumentality Committee; after this episode, they are replaced by the more familiar 'sound only' monoliths.

004

FUYUTSUKI:“It's begun, hasn't it?”

IKARI:“Yes, it all begins here.”
