Title2

EYECATCH B:“EPISODE #12: SHE SAID, "DON'T MAKE OTHERS SUFFER FOR YOUR PERSONAL HATRED."”

152

ASUKA (OFF):“WHAAAAAAT? Catch it in our hands?”

UrsusArctos: The hand shots are often reserved for Shinji, but here we get a rare and very expressive one of Asuka's!

153

MISATO:“That's right. We'll position the Evas in the estimated drop zone. You'll catch it while maintaining your AT Fields at full strength.”

Mr. Tines: A very cool feature for the basement in one of retracted towers, but what for? Perhaps a now-obstructed light-pipe from above?

UrsusArctos: This is the same office where Shinji got his initial room assignment. It seems that the entire ceiling city is built up and used for Nerv facilities, but why Misato's holding the briefing there (far from the Eva facilities and any other place we see her brief the pilots) and not in the Nerv Pyramid beats me.

154

SHINJI:“What if the Angel is far off course?”

155

MISATO:“We'll be out of luck, then.”

156

ASUKA:“What if the Evas aren't able to withstand the impact?”

157

MISATO:“We're out of luck then too.”

158

SHINJI:“Our chance of success?”

159

MISATO:“God only knows, is all I can say.”

160

ASUKA:“If we succeed, it'll truly be a miracle.”

161

MISATO:“The only miracles with any value are the ones you work.”

162

ASUKA:“Meaning, make it work somehow?”

163

MISATO:“I'm sorry, but we have no other options for this operation.”

164

ASUKA:“How can you call this an operation?!”

165

MISATO:“You're right, we really can't. So if you don't want to, you can refuse. Are you all okay with this?”

166

167

MISATO:“Regulations say you're technically supposed to write a will. What do you want to do?”

Frogatr: Is this one of Misato's bizarre ways of motivating the pilots? Very morbid.

168

ASUKA:“That's fine, I don't plan on needing one.”

REI:“I'm fine too. I have no need.”

SHINJI:“I'm also fine.”

Frogatr: The way Rei says she "has no need" for a will is telling.

Dr. Nick: I'm surprised the will writing wasn't brought up in episode 6 when Shinji and Rei were against a sure-kill sniper, protected only by a jerry-rigged shield that can last maybe 17 seconds.

169

MISATO:“I'm sorry. Once this is over, I'll treat everyone to a steak dinner!”

ASUKA:“What? Really?”

MISATO:“I promise.”

SHINJI:“Yay!”

ASUKA:“Don't forget!”

MISATO:“You can count on it.”

170

SHINJI:“So I suppose steak defines a great dinner.”

ASUKA:“Does she think a kid these days would be impressed with steak? That's why I say the Second Impact generation has really cheap standards.”

SHINJI:“She can't help it.”

ASUKA:“What was with that "Yay!"? Pretending you're so happy!”

SHINJI:“If it helps Miss Misato feel good about being in command, what's wrong with that?”

ASUKA:“Now, since she's going to treat us,”

TEXT:“Tokyo Gourmet”

UrsusArctos: Asuka is being Asuka again, but I think she's got a point. Surely Misato could get something appropriated out of one of Nerv's budgets for taking the pilots out to dinner instead of paying out of her own pocket? Gendo's not around to object!

171

ASUKA:“I wonder where we should have her take us?”

ASUKA:“You're coming with us this time.”

REI:“I'm not going.”

SHINJI:“Why not?”

172

173

REI:“I don't like meat.”

Mr. Tines: Rei is much more relaxed about her dietary preferences than Nadia was. Did Anno mellow out in the interim?

Zusuchan: Nadia and Rei are considerably different people. Besides, Rei's reaction is more Anno-like. IIRC, Anno doesn't eat meat not because of considering it a moral thing to do, but because he simply had no big interest in eating and ultimately meat just fell off the menu. Getting it back would need him to have enough interest in slowly start with consuming meat again.
