341

MISATO (OFF):“Oh, damn it!”

342

MISATO:“Why won't it open?!”

343

MISATO (OFF):“This is an emergency! I've gotta go! Hey, I told you not to look up!”

KAJI:“Yeah, yeah...”

Mr. Tines: Nothing he hasn't seen hundreds of times...

344

345

Zusuchan: Love how a similar thing happens to Asuka and Shinji. Feels to me like a nice way of implying that despite all the words and professed dislike, there are lingering feelings underneath when it comes to these two 'couples'.

dzzthink: Even the part where Misato tells Kaji not to look up her skirt mimics the previous scene with Asuka and Shinji (224)

UrsusArctos: Love the little details: the jacket and the folders strewn about the elevator, the shadows of Ritsuko, Hyuga and Maya cast upon this unlucky duo, and how their groaning and rather perverse positioning does them no favors!

346

IBUKI:“Disgusting...”

347

SHINJI (OFF):“It's ironic that the stars are so beautiful when there's no electricity or artificial lights.”

ASUKA (OFF):“But without the lights, it doesn't feel like anyone lives there. See? I feel much more comfortable this way.”

Mr. Tines: One wonders about the three pilots just wandering off into the countryside in their full uniforms, and no apparent escort, however idyllic the setting.

UrsusArctos: Perhaps they decided to use their remaining battery power to take their Evas out fishing before taking an idyllic stroll, calmly avoiding any bungling Section Two agents in the dark.

348

REI:“Man has always feared the darkness, carving away at it with fire.”

dzzthink: I thought this was a quote Rei may have read from her books but it's actually something she says philosophically. This sort of plays into the theme of running away from pain in the series, as well as the irony in how it leads to more consequences. Similarly, there is a connection here between man's quest for light and Nerv's tragic quest to gain control of fate through the instrumentality project, which can also be narrowed down to Gendo's wish to reunite with Yui.

349

ASUKA:“How philosophical!”

SHINJI:“Is that what makes mankind a special species? Is that why the Angels keep attacking us?”

UrsusArctos: In true Evangelion fashion, truly important and indeed, profound questions are buried in an episode that would be filler in any other anime.

350

ASUKA:“What are you, stupid? There's no way to know that.”

UrsusArctos: There is a way to know the answer, but that has to wait. This outdoors scene is bookended by the gorgeous pans down and up to the stars, which appears to be a subtle hint towards the eventual reveal that all life on Earth, humans included, originate from far beyond.
