Shinji Higuchi
Shinji Higuchi (樋口 真嗣) worked as a writer and storyboard artist for the Evangelion TV series and is credited for continuity and sound effect director for the End of Evangelion movie. Higuchi is one of the 4 founders of Gainax, the others being Hideaki Anno, Takami Akai, and Yoshiyuki Sadamoto. He is also Shinji Ikari's namesake.
Higuchi started off as an artist and doing special effects and worked on projects such as The Return of Godzilla (1984) and the Gamera Trilogy in the 90's. In 1996, he won the Festival Prize at the Yokohama Film Festival for his special effects work in Gamera daikaijû kuchu kessen. Later, Higuchi did CG work for anime and movies such as Casshern. And in 2006, he won the Golden Raspberry Award for his film Sinking of Japan, a remake of the 1973 Toho disaster film.
His anime career started with his work in The Wings of Honneamise as an assistant director and later working on the earlier Gainax works such as Gunbuster (storyboard, animation director), Nadia: The Secret of Bluewater (episode director), Otaku no Video (storyboard), and Diebuster (storyboard). Other significant storyboard contributions include Macross Plus, Vandread, and The Skullman.
