I think there was another reference to "Over the Rainbow" that came from an Anime, and that was where the idea of naming the Carrier came from. Not the wizard of Oz song. It wouldn't surprise me if several Anime had "Over the Rainbow: references in them, but you're probably thinking of the episode of Urusei Yatsura, where "Operation Over the Rainbow" is launched from a secret underground base. You probably saw the post Shin-seiki wrote about it several months ago the day after we watched the episode (I searched for the post but came up empty). Because the base belongs to a character named Asuka Mizunokouji, he felt that having Asuka arrive on a ship with that name was a possible reference to this episode. You're right that it probably be a good idea to add this as a possible source; I had forgotten all about it.
