Toji's sister is injured during Shinji's battle with Sachiel. Despite the fact that Toji blames Shinji and beats him mercilessly, they later become good friends. Toji's best friend is Kensuke Aida.

Toji frequently displays a "tough guy" exterior, as evidenced by the fact that he is the only member of his class who openly refuses to wear the school uniform.

Notes

• In the original Japanese dub, Toji speaks with an Osakan accent. Indeed, his ID information displayed in Episode 03 states that he is originally from the Osaka region. Osaka is a major trading port and has been since ancient times; as a result English dubs of anime often try to translate an Osakan accent by having a character speak with a Brooklyn accent, etc. The official English dub by ADV Films chose not to portray Toji this way, and simply makes Toji speak more informally than the other characters.
