"Classified Information"

The game's biggest attraction was its "Classified Information" (Kimitsu Jouhou) files: the game was hyped to contain the answers to some of Neon Genesis Evangelion's most perplexing mysteries, and these "answers" came in the form of unlockable data files, isolated from the actual gameplay.

Series creator Hideaki Anno was extensively interviewed by the video game developers, so the information contained within the "Classified Information" files should probably be considered "second-tier" canon: it is fairly accurate and reveals many things which the series only vaguely explains, however it also mentions a few things which contradict things depicted in the series. For example, the series states that all Angels are trying to return to Adam, but the Classified Information files say that some Angels were trying to reach Lilith, while others were trying to reach Adam, and some simply had no purpose at all. Thus the information contained inside should probably be taken with a grain of salt, but individual facts revealed within the files are probably trustworthy so long as they do not directly conflict with information from the series itself.

F Type Equipment

F Type Equipment from the NGE2 game

We hear about B and D Type Equipment in the series. A and C are never mentioned, and, when it came time to fabricate a merchandising gimmick for the NGE2 game, they skipped straight to F. The F Type Equipment is ungainly magenta-and-orange-colored armor that is dumped right on top of EVA-01's normal purple getup. Not only does it look like it would impede her movement in general, it also, incomprehensibly, places a pylon right in front of the Eva's face… @_@ Fortunately, Yamashita — who was given the task of designing the thing — was well aware of the problematic nature of the F Type Equipment's concept (see the January 2004 issue of Newtype USA for further details), so he can be forgiven for this monstrosity. (Well, except for that one pylon, anyway.)

Notes

  • A PSP version of the game, given the title Neon Genesis Evangelions: Tsukurareshi Sekai (Making a(?? not sure of the translation of tsukrareshi) World) - Another Cases was released in 2006 in Japan. It includes many extras and game enhancements, such as a total of 18 game Scenarios, some modified or new ones from the original 11 in the PS2 version.
