The First Angel is a change to the Angel pantheon introduced in Evangelion 3.0. The character Kaworu Nagisa describes himself as the First Angel. But because of Gendo's plans, Kaworu "degenerated into" the Thirteenth Angel. How he came into existence, or was involved in Second Impact, is not known.
