190A

190B

HYUGA:“Angel is approaching! Immediate Eva dispatch will be necessary!”

190C

IBUKI:“Oh, no!”

191

IKARI:“Fuyutsuki, I'll leave the rest to you.”

FUYUTSUKI:“Ikari?”

IKARI:“I'll start preparing for the Eva launch in the cage.”

192

FUYUTSUKI:“Don't tell me... Manually?”

193-2

UrsusArctos: One of NGE's ubiquitous hand shots, but it's rare to see Gendo get this sort of hand shot. Hand shots of him almost always feature both hands in the usual steepled position.

194

IKARI:“There's an emergency diesel generator.”

FUYUTSUKI (OFF):“But...”

195

FUYUTSUKI:“We have no pilots.”

Zusuchan: A hint that Gendo's a lot more dedicated to/serious about his job than would perhaps initially seem? Also perhaps that he holds some faith in all the pilots, not just Rei.

196

SHINJI:“Not again!”

197

REI:“This way.”

198

199

200

ASUKA:“I've heard that you're Commander Ikari's favorite.”

201

202

ASUKA:“I guess being Miss Perfect, the teacher's pet, really shows.”

203

SHINJI:“Let's not do this now.”

204

ASUKA:“You always get to look all smug.”

205

206

207

208

ASUKA:“Don't think that being favored means that you can mess with me!”

Zusuchan: Asuka really can't understand Rei not standing up for herself by replying. I guess Rei's stoic, consistently non-aggressive behaviour feels too "doll-like" for Asuka, which is obviously more of a statement on her own psychological insecurities than Rei's nature.

209

REI:“I'm not messing with you.”

210

211

REI:“And I'm not favored either. I know that quite well.”

dzzthink: Rei's response is quite intriguing. One would assume her position is quite established, but here she acknowledges her inessentiality without question.

212

TECH GUYS:“Heave ho! Heave ho!”

213

UrsusArctos: Unless I'm mistaken, this marks the last appearance of the signal termination plug.

214

IKARI:“Good, prepare to insert the entry plug for all three units.”

MAN:“Roger. Ejection of the terminal plug is complete.”

MAN:“But the pilots aren't here yet.”

215

IKARI:“Don't worry, they'll come without fail.”

216

SHINJI:“I can't open this with my hands.”

217

REI:“It can't be helped. We'll have to break into a duct to get through.”

218

ASUKA:“This First Child is scary! She's the type who will do anything to accomplish her objectives.”

219

ASUKA (OFF):“In other words, a self-righteous bitch.”

dzzthink: In the silence of the room, Rei probably heard what Asuka said but she remained cool and collected, focused only on the mission at hand.

220

221

222

223

IBUKI:“The plug is fixed and ready.”

RITSUKO:“Now, we just have to wait for the kids.”

224

ASUKA:“Don't you dare look forward! If you do, I'll kill you! Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!”

dzzthink: Asuka directs a piece of dialogue; Shinji naturally looks up in response (and he would have to see where he was going anyway); Asuka unleashes a brutal flurry of kicks into his face. A true leader, indeed.

UrsusArctos: I know this is played for slapstick comedy like the other instances of Asuka physically hitting Shinji, but there's nothing at all funny about being kicked in the face.

225

ASUKA (OFF):“Didn't I just say not to look?!”

SHINJI (OFF):“I couldn't help it! I've got to...”

226

227

UrsusArctos: Rei lands perfectly on her feet while the other two lie in a heap. We've already seen her stretch her arms out when running or jumping in Episode 05 Cut 132 and she does it again, forming a cross with her arms and body. Her face also looks especially owl-like. Is it at moments like these that the Lilith part of Rei's nature subconsciously arises or something?

Frogatr: Falling on top of each other in an awkward manner seems to be a recurring theme in this episode. (Cuts 294 and 345 )

228

RITSUKO:“You guys!”

229

IKARI:“All units, prepare for entry!”

MAN (OFF):“Roger, open the hatches manually.”

230

SHINJI:“How are the Evas?”

RITSUKO:“They're in standby.”

231

232

SHINJI:“But nothing's working.”

233

RITSUKO:“It was all done by hand. It was the Commander's idea.”

234

SHINJI:“My father's?”

235

236

RITSUKO (OFF):“Commander Ikari”

237

RITSUKO (OFF):“had faith that you would come, and prepared everything.”

Mr. Tines: Emotional whiplash after the earlier phonecall.

Zusuchan: The realization that his father cares this much about something comes almost as a shock to Shinji-understandable considering how little interest he actually shows in his own son. A part of Shinji's character seems to be centered around his wonderings, what is it that Gendo cares about?

238

239

MAN (OFF):“Flywheel, ready for connection!”

WOMAN (OFF):“All units, interior set.”

MAN (OFF):“We're good! Run the cell motor!”

242

240

241

243

IBUKI:“Plugs inserted.”

RITSUKO:“All units activated using backup power supply.”

244

IKARI:“Release the primary lock bolts.”

245

246A

246B

247

IBUKI (OFF):“Zero pressure.”

MAN (OFF):“Hydraulic locks numbers 2 through 32, released.”

248

IBUKI:“The situation is free.”

IKARI:“Go ahead. Each unit, force open the restraints under your own power.”

249

IKARI:“Head out!”
