The extended opening we're refering to here is not an extended version of the opening scene to ep. 12; it's an extended version of the series' opening credits, set to the full length version of ''Cruel Angel's Thesis''.  One of the added images is the still of Adam being excavated in Antarctica.  This was a renewal extra that ADV didn't license.
There was no new footage added to 1-20, but there was a lot of new background sound added to take advantage of the 5.1 mix, such as P.A. announcements, ect.--[[User:The wayneiac|thewayneiac]]  Aug. 08, 2007  18:50 EDT.
